Far Flung: Zack & Miri in Hong Kong

Wow, and to think the MPAA nixed the original design for the US version of the Zack & Miri Make a Porno. Above is a photo of a standee from a movie theater lobby in Hong Kong, which is way naughtier than what was originally proposed for the US (but which ran in Canada). Here the cast strike poses similar to those on the HK theatrical poster, though that censors certain, um… “points” the standee doesn’t. Kevin Smith apparently wanted to try and use that image as the cover of the US Blu-ray release of Zack & Miri, and while that idea would certainly never have flown over here, I’m sure a movie nerd like Smith must gain some satisfaction in being able to say he’s directed a Category III film.

Man, that poster’s funnier than the actual movie. Did you notice that at Target Stores the DVD cover just reads “Zack and Miri”? No mention of any porno.

Yeah, I know Wal-Mart refused to carry the DVD if it had the word “Porno” in the title, so they agreed to remove it. I guess as a culture we’re still pretty purtanical/hypocritical…
